Gift Guide: 2022 edition

By Melissa Thibodeau

Welcome back to our annual Hatley-approved holiday gift guide. We’ve rounded up a wonderful selection of unique gifts for the kiddos on your list. You can check out our 2021 edition here.

1. Kitpas erasable art crayons

We love these nontoxic crayons for their vibrant pigments and ease of use. Can’t you just picture your kids decorating windows and glass doors for holidays and every other day in between?

2. Lush bath bombs

Hurray for spa nights! Lush bath bombs are a great non-toy gift for every occasion, not just Christmas. Our kids love gifting these to their friends too. Their seasonal collections are always on point.

3. Elise Gravel books

Canadian children’s picture book author and illustrator Elise Gravel has a knack for crafting the silliest and most absurd stories that kids (and parents) simply love.

4. Safe wooden knife for your top chef

Every budding sous-chef needs the right tools and you can be sure that this nifty chopper handcrafted by Atelier Saint Cerf will help them do a good job. Tip: complete their kit with an apron and chef hat!

5. Gravity bugs

We came across this STEM set and could not resist. Kids first build the robotic bug and then they get to watch it literally climb the walls, windows, etc. The fun part is experimenting with all the different surfaces it can climb.

6. Lottie dolls

These play dolls were a favourite of ours. There really is a doll for every taste, hobby and interest. Perfectly sized for small hands, Lottie dolls boast realistic body proportions and really well-constructed clothing and accessories.

7. Mouse hole stickers

Add a touch of whimsy to your home décor and children’s bedrooms with these realistic-looking yet whimsical mouse door stickers.

8. Boogie Board slate

When they’re young, kids love to scribble and draw on these magical Boogie Boards. Perfect for staying busy while travelling and eating out too. But as they get older, you’ll soon discover how amazing these slates are for homework.

9. Penny skate board

Is it just us or is it nearly always love at first sight between 5+ year-olds and skateboards? This season, gift them their very first cruiser board. The 22” penny board is the smallest size (perfect for a first-time skater.) We’re currently crushing on all things galactic.

10. Bananagrams

Bananagrams is like scrabble but without the board or the points. Players race against each other to use up all their tiles to create words. We love seeing the pride in our kids’ eyes as they come up with longer and longer words.

11. Turn a drawing into a doll

Turn a child’s most favourite drawing of a cool character into a doll. DerbyMonsterQuilts makes it possible and the results are so amazing.

12. Books to Bed

Take your nightly tradition to a whole new level of special with these keepsake pajamas and picture book gift sets. Choose from bestselling titles as well as Christmas classics.

13. Marble Run

A good marble run is family playtime at its finest and heirloom quality Hape Quadrilla sets are the standard. We love this Super Spirals one for its xylophone rail that makes a tune as marbles roll over it.

Be sure to check out our experience gift suggestions and top 8 kids magazine subscriptions for even more inspiration.
