10 cool school supplies

By Melissa Thibodeau

Without question, this new school year is going to be quite different. One way to make it more exciting for your little student is by introducing some fun new school supplies and accessories. Here are some of our favourites, already tested and approved by our staff’s kids.

1. Herschel Supply Co. Heritage Backpacks

If you’re looking for a great quality backpack that will outlast more than a single school year, these Heritage backpacks are it. With tons of colour combinations to choose from, we love the sternum support clip and must-have water bottle pockets (there’s one inside too!).

2. Happy Self Journals

These award-winning journals were created to help kids think of the positives in each day, to promote happiness and develop healthy habits. They’re so easy for kids to fill out too.

3. Green Beaver Company Hand Sanitizer

Protect little hands from the effects of slathering on hand sanitizers multiple times a day with this gentler option that also smells divine (approved by Health Canada).

4. U-Konserve Containers

What we love most about these stainless steel nesting containers is that they’re easy for little hands to use and after 2 years of reusing them over and over, they hardly show any wear. Oh! and they also take up very little space in the cupboard.

5. Hydro Flask Kids Wide Mouth bottles

These easy to use, stainless steel water bottles are the perfect size for little hands. They keep icy cold drinks tasting icy cold for 24 hours (seriously, they do!) The lid has a built-in finger loop that kids love to use and we love how easy they are to clean.

6. So Young Lunch boxes

These are amazing. They come in a ton of styles, are insulated, and here's the real genius: there's a second insulated insert that you can easily remove to clean. They also come with a messenger strap that's perfect for when their backpacks are full.

7. Hatley Microfleece Jackets

Our microfiber jackets are pretty awesome if we do say so ourselves. Kids love them for their prints and soft lining, but we love that they pull double duty as a raincoat and as a jacket. Perfect for days when we’re unsure if it’ll rain or just be chilly and cloudy.

8. Mabel's Labels

Hands down, our favourite customizable labels. With tons of fun designs and colour combos to choose from, the labelling-their-everything chore is instantly made more enjoyable. The website is so easy to use that kids can also get involved in creating their set.

9. Made Good snacks

Despite our best intentions to only pack fresh snacks, sometimes the occasion (or lack of preparedness) calls for prepackaged treats. We love Made Good bars because they are free from the 8(!) most common kinds of allergens, organic and GMO-free, and above all: delicious!

10. Flik & Flak watches by Swatch

The most challenging thing about back to school has got to be getting used to the morning routine, right? A great way to empower kids to own their mornings is to teach them time and we love how Flik & Flak watches help with this. The brother-sister duo has been teaching kids since 1987!

No matter where your kids will be learning – we wish you all a wonderful and safe school year!
